Warm Wool Cowl Pattern

Since I dyed my yarns various shades of the same color, I thought it would be cool to knit similar yet slightly differing colors together.  Not only were the colors great, but knitting with two yarns creates a very warm piece, perfect for the cold winters we have here in Minnesota.  This pattern can me found in pdf version on ravelry.

Materials:

Yarn

2 balls Patons Classic Wool (hand dyed) – 100% wool, 210 yards/192m, 3.5oz/100g

Needles

Size 13 (9.00mm)

Measurements

19 inches in circumference, 11 inches tall

Gauge

16 sts in daisy st = 4 inches

Abbreviations

sl = slip purlwise

wyif = with yarn in front

wyib = with yarn in back

ds = daisy stitch: p3tog, leave stitches on left needle, yarn over, purl same 3 sts together again

Pattern:

With both yarns together (here and throughout), cast on 43 sts.

Beginning Row (RS): k2, p1, k to 4 sts from end, p1, k2

Row 1 (WS): sl1 wyif, p1, k1, *p1, ds* repeat 9 times, p1, k1, p2

Rows 2 and 4: sl1 wyib, k1, p1, k to 4 sts from end, p1, k2

Row 3: sl1 wyif, p1, k1, p2, *p1, ds* repeat 8 times, p3, k1, p2

Repeat rows 1-4 16 times for pattern dimensions.  Cast off.  Sew first and last rows together.  A good tutorial for this is the horizontal seam or the backstitch on this fantastic website.

If you would like a longer scarf, repeat rows 1-4 until desired length is achieved.  If you would like a wider scarf, increase amount of stitches by four.
